Project objectives:
Water4Crops provides a combination of technical improvements in the field of bio-treatment and agricultural water use within a transdisciplinary identification
of novel agri-business opportunities. The project is essentially aimed at: Developing innovative bio-technological wastewater treatments for enhancing wastewater agricultural reuse. Co-creating innovative combinations of bio-treatment, recycling of water and high-value products, and bio-productions for the development of biotechnologies
and agri-business in Europe and India towards a “green growth”. Improving water use efficiency through improved agronomics, plant breeding and new irrigation technologies. Enhancing stakeholder participation in the co-creation process and Europe-India cooperation through Mirror Cases approach and INNOVA platforms.
Project Summary:
Water4Crops is a collaborative research project funded by the European Union (FP7 programme): 22 European partners of nine different countries headed by
IRSA-CNR (Istituto di RicercaSulleAcque – ConsiglioNazionaledelleRicerche) and 13 Indian partners coordinated by ICIRSAT (International Crops Research
Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics) will research Biotechnological Wastewater Treatments and New business opportunities in agrofood industry. The co-creation process of the comprehensive set of key Green-Economy technologies and the identification of new product market combinations are organized
by two Mirror cases (Emilia Romagna area in Italy and Hyderabad region in India) within a specific Science-Practice Interface. Developing the new applications and business opportunities with regional enterprises and stakeholder will move India and Europe towards a Green Economy.
